Commissioned by Westminster City Council, the Great War Memorial honours the 82 council members who lost their lives during the First World War. Located prominently at Kings Gate Place on Victoria Street, the installation features 82 shards of Carrara marble arranged within a circular steel plaque, inscribed with the names of the fallen.
Jnoad Ltd undertook the full scope of civil engineering, electrical infrastructure, and project management works required to deliver the memorial. This included enabling works, power supply integration, waterproofing, and coordination with stakeholders to ensure seamless installation in a high-profile public space.
Unveiled on 8th December 2016, the memorial now serves as the focal point for Westminster’s annual remembrance ceremonies and is officially listed on the Imperial War Museum’s War Memorials Register.
Project DetailsJnoad provided a dedicated power supply for the memorial’s LED lighting, routed from the existing landlord distribution board. A new isolator was installed at Level B1 for safe and maintainable access.
To accommodate the memorial within an existing tree pit, existing lighting was removed and new cabling was routed through a waterproof-sealed penetration in the concrete pit wall—ensuring long-term resilience.
Jnoad coordinated all technical delivery, stakeholder liaison, and site logistics, ensuring the memorial was installed on time and to specification within a complex urban environment.
Now listed on the Imperial War Museum’s War Memorials Register and shortlisted for the PMSA Award (2017), the memorial stands as a lasting tribute to civic sacrifice and historical remembrance.
